Pelican Knives?
What are the pelican knives used for ?
Answer
Since the blade is curved, they are handy for working in hollow areas. The curve also gives the cut a slicing action similar to a skew. Another use is a rocking stop-cut, where the blade is rolled over a curved surface. This allows for an even depth to be maintained since the blade is rocked and not pulled across the wood.
The mini pelican is somewhat flatter and thinner. It’s advantage is that the back of the blade is very narrow. This allows for cuts with a very tight turning radius. The thin blade is very low resistance and does not disturb adjacent detail in the work.
