Alexandra Motiu Picture

Alexandra Motiu

I am a printmaker and illustrator with a fine art background, working primarily with relief techniques such as linocut and wood engraving, as well as etching and monotype. My work is detailed, surreal, and often rooted in storytelling, drawing on myth, portraiture, and social history. I build complex, layered compositions that develop through the particularities of printmaking process itself, guided by the medium. I aim to make hauntingly beautiful work that will stay with the viewer for a long time.

I see printmaking as a form of resistance today: slow, deliberate, and grounded in care and craft. It connects me with the long history of print as a trade, and helps me reflect on how work, and the rights of workers, have evolved and continue to evolve today. I am passionate about sharing and preserving the knowledge of this craft in its entirety.
