I started carving soap with my grandpa at 8 years old, he was a big hobby carver in the 90s and shared his love of carving with me. In high school I started my wood carving journey in shop class and fell in love with it. I would sometimes have 4 of my 5 classes a day be in the wood shop so i could carve all day long. After high school i went into construction and only carved for fun after work and on weekends. During Covid I found a video on youtube that was a short documentary on chainsaw carving and I realized I could make a career out of carving. I bought a chainsaw and a month later went all in and was full time carving. I love to incorporate my hand carving past into my chainsaw carving career but doing the final and more precise details with hand tools. Eyes, claws, teeth, hair, feathers. Anything that needs that finer touch I always fall back on hand tools and Flexcut always answers that call.
