From Iowa City to Seattle: We Love Jimothy
Ariane Parkes-Perret
I love puzzles and interactive art and wanted to do something whimsical that incorporated elements of both Seattle and my hometown of Iowa City. Jimothy is happily running with a landscape of Seattle, including the Space Needle, with semi abstract forms of Mt Rainier and pine trees forming the inner contours of his body. The landscape also features the Chihuly glass sculptures. Outside of Jimothy features elements of my hometown, including the Old Capitol (a famous Iowa City landmark) and local wildflowers. The carving also functions as a puzzle, with five forms of Jimothy to find hidden in the imagery (a few are more abstract)
About: I am a printmaker based in Iowa City. I especially love relief and screenprint both on paper and textiles. My work incorporates ecological themes and elements inspired by childhood. More recently, I have started on a body of work inspired by marine ecosystems with the bright colors one may see in images of coral reefs. I absolutely love the Pacific Northwest! I have family up there and visit as often as possible. There is something magical about pine forests! In my free time, I enjoy sewing, working on jigsaw puzzles and drives in the Iowa countryside.
